Secretary Manager,
Mr. Burchell Duhaney J.P.
logo I am indeed happy to lead the management team of The Mico Foundation at this time when The Mico University College is on the verge of changing its status to full university. As Secretary/Manager, I manage a small team of eight employees who understand the Foundation's obligations and developmental roles and are committed to ensuring its success. In like manner, the Board of Directors has guided the undertakings of the Foundation through the altruistic commitment of its founders. The development of the Mico Foundation in 1981 has added a new dimension to The Mico as a trust institution. It gave focus to a new perspective regarding the measures to acquire property and to protect and use its assets to support the institution's ongoing developmental needs. Since inception, the Foundation has invested in property acquisition; beautification of the grounds; development of student accommodation; improving the technical support systems, the aesthetic appearance of the University College by building a new entry gate and perimeter fence and the water supply by drilling a well among other capital development projects. The Mico Foundation as a Charitable non-profit organization champions the cause and realization of infrastructure development, and astute property and assets management. The Foundation provides financial resources for grants and scholarships to empower and respond to the needs of students and staff. A significant part of its obligation is the protection and maintenance of the legacy of the Lady Mico Trust. As a Charitable Organization, the Foundation earns its income from the support and generosity of graduates and well-wishers, project management, property rental and other entrepreneurial enterprises. Financial gains from these enterprises are used to improve the infrastructure of the University College; support students, employees, and outreach projects. It is undeniable that the Mico has been outstanding in the development of human capacity for education for over 180 years. However, the fourth industrial revolution with its intensification of new technology and artificial intelligence has brought new challenges that call for greater resources to engage and survive in this new dispensation. The financial support of all stakeholders, alumni, well wishers and friends is needed as the institution advances, particularly as it changes from University College to full University. The vibrant presence of The Mico Alumni Association Limited (MOSA) contributes to the protection of the legacy. Internationally, The Mico University College Foundation of the America (MUCFA), was established as an IRS approved 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in the United States of America and has enabled US donors to make tax-deductible donations of funds, gifts, goods and services to The Mico. It is anticipated that there will be significant expansion in the role and types of partnership with stakeholders and are projected to yield mutual benefits while contributing to expanding critical human resource to advance sustainable national development. I applaud the efforts of all our stakeholders whose tireless work gives valuable support to the University College. The Lady Mico Trust has been a consistent and steadfast support for more than 180 years.

logo I am delighted to welcome you to The Mico Foundation website where you will have the opportunity to learn more about who we are and what we do. Our primary goal is the strategic improvement of the assets of The Mico, its physical expansion and development as a comfortable, safe, and technologically integrated teaching and learning environment, the preservation of the Lady Mico legacy, and as the main driver for endowment and entrepreneurial enterprises. The Foundation was incorporated in 1981 as a limited liability company not for profit, with its membership and its Board comprising of representatives nominated by the Lady Mico Trust, the Board of the University College, and the Mico Old Students Association. In 1991 the Lady Mico Trust in Great Britain entrusted to the Foundation the Mico estate at 1A Marescaux Road; this together with all other acquired premises makes it the owner and custodian of all The Mico properties in Jamaica. The Foundation's primary objective is to preserve the heritage of the Lady Mico Trust, manage, develop and expand all acquired tangible and intangible assets and to raise funds to assist with the improvement of The Mico University College. In this regard, the Foundation commits to be an active, dependable and viable source for endowment, economic enterprises, asset preservation, and an enabling environment to develop social capital. I trust that as you browse the website, you will be inspired by what we do as a charitable organization to facilitate the growth and development of the Mico University, and by extension, education in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. The Foundation is open to new and productive ideas and invites you to share your ideas with us so that together we will advance the objectives and interests of both the Foundation and the Mico University College.

logo I am delighted that the Mico Foundation has decided to launch a new website to showcase the work of the Foundation and the offerings of the Mico University College to students in Jamaica, the Caribbean and beyond. The Lady Mico Trust was founded by Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton in 1834 on Christian principles to support education in Jamaica. The Trustees have endeavoured to perpetuate his vision as evidenced in the advancements at the University College since its inception. The University College stands on the original site which was donated to the Mico Foundation by the Lady Mico Trust in 2000. The Lady Mico Trust has a close relationship with The Mico Foundation who are the custodians of all the properties in which the University College operates. The Trustees are proud of their long association with the University College. They are pleased to continue to work in collaboration with the Mico Foundation to support the maintenance and upgrade of the physical infrastructure and new projects to benefit the sustainability of the college and its students. Back logo The Foundation functions as the entity that ensures interaction, communication, and consensus among all entities within Brand Mico for the common good of The Mico. Since its inception it has acquired properties, constructed buildings invested in the development of assets and is engaged in major income bearing enterprises in support of expanding the reach of the University College.
